I'm not sure "choice" is even the right word for it. I still mourn mine. I did it because of the realization that death was better than what I had gone through. I couldn't imagine any way out, and I am still certain that my abuser would have done the same things to the child that he was doing to me. I have always been pro-life, but I am also anti-rape. You are right in your poem. I didn't understand until I was put in that situation. And under the same pressures, I took the same painful path. A caged hamster doesn't eat her young because she hates babies. She doesn't do it because she is sadistic, or because she feels personally inconvenienced. She does it because she is under stress, desperate, trapped, and doesn't want any living thing to share her fate. Sometimes it is not selfish, but is a deeply painful sacrifice that feels like cutting out your own heart. Now I know, and I am sorry if I ever doubted that.
