Deaf, Dumb, and Blind

Sometimes it’s hard to write what’s in my head
Sometimes it doesn’t get put to the page
But what is in there, contains a lot of rage
I’ve been growing thinking of the love and the light
But I have to tell you now, part of me still wants to fight
I know there’s more good for all the world to see
But the horror, the trauma, the damage to children
Still…..still is haunting me

Like a discordant note, cursing through your veins
Like the feel of a knife stuck into your back
Like the sound of fingernails scraping
Across that school board so black
That sound, that sound is haunting me

Did you ever wonder why, when you look into their eyes Chorus 1
Have you listened to their cries, did you ever wonder why
When you listen to them cry, how could you be so deaf, dumb, and blind?

I know some day I’ve got pretty songs to write
The power of love, I know of which I’m going to write
But for now the sounds of broken children
Yeah the sounds of all those little children
Still, still enrages me
Someday I’m going to change this chord
To a chord that sounds so bright
But for now the sounds of haunting
Will still, will still be my friend at night
That sound, that sound is haunting me

Chorus 2
Did you ever wonder why, when you listen to them cry
Have you looked into their eyes, when you listen to them cry
Did you ever wonder why, how could you be so deaf, dumb, and blind
When you look into their eyes, did you ever wonder why
How could you be so deaf, dumb, and blind
I want to know, I want to know
I want to know, I want to know
